Congress MLAs Subhash Shirodkar, Dayanand Sopte Offered Rs 100 Cr to Join BJP?

The Goa Congress hit out at the BJP for poaching their MLAs, alleging that the party had offered its MLAs Rs 100 crore each to join the party and also threatened them with imprisonment if they did not.

Two Congress MLAs Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar resigned from the party and are likely to join the BJP today evening.

A Congress leader in Goa who spoke to IndiaScoops.com on phone, said that the offer of Rs 100 crore was made to 3-4 Congress MLAs, after which two of them defected and resigned from the primary membership of the party today. BJP National President Amit Shah threatened our MLAs with dire consequences if they did not resign and join the BJP, the Congress leader said.

“Congress legislators Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte faxed their resignations as members of the Assembly to my office. We have received their resignations,” Goa Assembly Speaker Pramod Sawant told PTI.

“We are joining BJP today. We expect 2-3 more MLAs to come, not today but in the coming days,” Subhash Shirodkar told ANI after a meeting with the BJP chief Amit Shah in Delhi today. Both the legislators had gone to the national capital Monday night, fueling speculation that they might quit the Congress and join the BJP, reported PTI.

While Sopte, who defeated former BJP chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar in 2017 State legislative assembly election, represents Mandrem constituency, Shirodkar was elected on a Congress ticket from Shiroda constituency.

With this, the Congress’ strength in the 40-member Assembly is reduced to 14.

The development comes at a time when the Congress is trying to prove its majority in the Goa Assembly. Claiming that not all is well in the BJP-led coalition government, the Congress had demanded a confidence vote in the Goa Assembly. The BJP, with 14 MLAs is in alliance with the Goa Forward Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, the NCP who have one member each. The alliance also has an independent candidate.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is currently being treated by doctors from state-run Goa Medical College and Hospital at his residence at Dona Paula. He returned to his home state on Sunday after brief treatment at AIIMS in Delhi.

“Said He Won’t Launch Me”: Actor Kate Sharma’s Harassment Complaint Against Subhash Ghai

Actor and model Kate Sharma has filed a molestation complaint against Bollywood filmmaker Subhash Ghai at the Versova police station in Mumbai on Saturday. Ms Sharma alleged that the filmmaker tried to forcibly kiss and hug her when he had called her to his house. After the complaint, Mr Ghai tweeted that his “lawyers will take care of it.”

“He called me to his house on August 6. There were about five to six people at his house and in front of everybody, he asked me to give him a massage. It was shocking for me but I respected his seniority and agreed. I massaged him for two to three minutes and then went to the washroom to wash my hands. He followed me there. He then took me to his room saying that he wanted to talk to me about something. He grabbed me and tried to kiss and hug me,” Ms Sharma said in her complaint.

“I told him that I wanted to leave but he threatened me and said that he will not launch me if I do not stay with him for the night,” alleged the Ms Sharma.

Hours after the complaint was filed by Ms Sharma, Mr Ghai tweeted, “I am surely a great supporter of #MeToo movement and women empowerment but hope that those taking undue advantage of the movement do not end up diluting it for their own short time fame. I feel grief if someone is trying to harm my reputation. Any way my lawyers will take care of matter.”

Mr Ghai is one of the biggest names in Bollywood to be called out by women for sexual harassment. He was accused of rape by an anonymous woman on social media last week. In the post, the woman had accused him of spiking her drink and raping her.

The 73-year-old director and producer strongly denied the allegations made against him after his name cropped up in the #MeToo movement. “It is sad that it is becoming a fashion to malign anyone known, bringing some stories from past without any truth or blown up false allegations if at all. I deny strictly and firmly all false allegations like these,” Mr Ghai told news agency PTI.

Apart from Subhash Ghai, India’s #MeToo movement has witnessed celebrities like Alok Nath, Nana Patekar, Kailash Kher, Rajat Kapoor, Sajid Khan and Vikas Bahl, among others, outed as alleged sexual predators.

Seize Rafale files to reveal truth: Congress

The Congress on Sunday demanded a seizure of all Rafale-related documents to establish the truth behind the deal, alleging Prime Minister Narendra Modi alone knew the facts and had hidden them from other ministers and officials.

“In the face of new revelations, there is no doubt that the Prime Minister has got rattled. But he is not answering specific questions regarding the price of the Rafale jets and offset contracts, and how and at what stage the public-sector HAL was ousted,” Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said.

“Our demand is that all related files be seized and forensic audit of the tender documents be done,” he added, asking that a joint parliamentary committee be allowed to examine these documents.

The Congress alleges that Modi had pressured the French to give the Rafale offset contract to Anil Ambani’s Reliance Defence, bypassing HAL, while keeping the defence and foreign ministries in the dark.

Sharma said the Prime Minister’s state visits have “a fixed agenda with joint statements discussed in advance and the draft exchanged before the start of the tour”.

So, he asked, “when the foreign secretary says two days before (Modi’s) visit (to France in April 2015) that Rafale is not on the agenda (and) confirms ongoing negotiations with HAL, how come the decision to purchase 36 aircraft is taken?”

“It is important to see whether the draft exchanged with the French government mentioned the plan to purchase 36 fighter jets instead of the (UPA) negotiated 108 aircraft. The foreign secretary’s statement is clear (that) it was not mentioned,” Sharma said.

“Dassault chief Eric Trappier too confirmed HAL as the partner but suddenly Ambani comes in. We have said the Prime Minister will have to explain this. Or the documents will bear the truth out. The Prime Minister alone is responsible as the entire administration was kept in the dark.”

Sharma echoed Rahul Gandhi’s allegation that defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s visit to France last week was a cover-up mission, necessitated by reports quoting former French President Francois Hollande as saying the Indian government had proposed Reliance as the offset partner.

“Hence, the defence minister has gone there to manage the crisis created by former President Francois Hollande, who spoke the truth on the offset contract. Otherwise, what is the reason for the visit now?”

Sharma also accused Modi and finance minister Arun Jaitley of misleading the country on the state of the economy, arguing that most of the indicators pointed to a grim reality and that even the foreign exchange reserves were falling.

He said an outflow of $30 billion (Rs 2.2 lakh crore) had been reported, around Rs 84,000 crore of it in the first quarter of this financial year.

“How can the fastest growing economy have the worst performing currency in Asia?” Sharma said.

“We are pained at the plight of the rupee; the market is in turmoil; the credit offtake is at its lowest; the current account deficit is rising. All these are the outcome of gross mismanagement and disastrous decisions like the demonetisation.”

Sharma recalled how exports had been booming under UPA rule. “Exports were growing at 18 per cent when we left office. By that yardstick, the exports should have stood at $500 billion today,” he said.

“It was $320 billion in May 2014 when we left and it is barely $300 billion today. The loss of $200 billion, which is huge, is seriously affecting job growth.”

Maharashtra opposition leaders demand action on Sanatan Sanstha for threatening India Today journalists

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar and Leader of Opposition in the state council Dhananjay Munde have demanded action against Sanatan Sanstha for threatening India Today journalists.

Both Pawar and Munde took to Twitter demanding action against Sanatan Sanstha for threatening journalists.

India Today in its is exposé titled #SanatanTerrorSanstha revealed facts regarding the role of those accused in the 2008 bomb blasts in Maharashtra but were later acquitted in 2011 by the lower court due to lack of evidence.

Mangesh Dinkar Nikam and Haribhau Krishna Divekar who were arrested for their roles in the the bomb blast case but were acquitted along with two others. Only Ramesh Gadkari and Vikram Bhave were convicted in the case.

However, in the India Today exposé, Nikam and Divekar confessed on camera about providing and planting explosives in the 2008 bomb blasts in Maharashtra.

But after India Today TV aired the tapes, the Sanstha on its website had displayed pictures of India Today journalists labelling them as ‘terrorists’.

Attacking the government for inaction, Ajit Pawar said, “Journalists are being threatened openly, what’s going on in the state? During our regime we had sent a proposal to ban the Sanatan Sanstha , what is the government now waiting for? When will you ban the Sanatan Sanstha?” he demanded.

Leader of opposition in the Legislative Council Dhananjay Munde too has demanded a ban on the Sanstha citing threats to India Today Special Investigation Team (SIT).

“Journalists exposing the deeds of Sanatan Sanstha are being threatened. People of Maharashtra will deal with the BJP government in the elections, but what about the security of journalists?” Munde questioned.

Parrikar-led BJP Govt fails miserably in Goa as ‘new jobs creation’ falls to ZERO in 2017-18

Goa government statistics obtained from the Dept of Personnel and other related Ministries like Home, Admin, etc., reveal that over the last 12-14 months, the new jobs’ creation count – at least in the government and semi government sector has fallen to zero – a major embarrassment and failure for the Manohar Parrikar-led BJP government in Goa, which made tall promises to wipe out unemployment in Goa in both its election manifestos of 2012 and 2017.

“There is absolutely no governance, the ministries are being run by remote control, from ICUs in hospitals either in the US or in Delhi. Basic functions of the government and routine and day-to-day activities are being carried out by bureaucrats and other government officials, but there is no initiative, no new development or progress taking place in the State,” a former chief secretary of Goa told IndiaScoops.com.

Even in the private unorganized sector in Goa, there is no growth in new jobs. Same old jobs or vacancies are filled as the seasons change and employees look for greener pastures, but there is no noticeable growth in employment over the last one year, primarily due to the lack of governance in the State as the  CM and other Ministers have been in ICU for the last six months or so, a  Congress leader explained.

Curtorim Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco in a written note submitted to the media on Saturday stated that “Parrikar fooled Goemkars with his false promises of reserving 80 per cent jobs for locals in companies operating in Goa and the creation of about 50,000 new jobs in the State.”

In the 2017 election manifesto of the BJP, the party claimed the State would become unemployment free in the next five years, which is a bundle of lies, says Lourenco, adding, “to top it all, Parrikar openly stately in the Assembly that the government cannot force industry to employ Goans”.

The Parrikar government does not have a fool-proof framework, there is no plan, or a set of guidelines. How does the government plan to fill the so-called 3000 vacancies, Lourenco asked, adding that everyone knows that government jobs in Goa are sold for a huge price. (Read Here)

Sanatan Sanstha Working For Hindu Religion, Says Goa MGP Minister Sudin Dhavilkar

PANAJI: Goa minister and Maharashtawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader Sudin Dhavalikar on Tuesday defended the Sanatan Sanstha, saying it is working in the interest of Hindu culture and religion and is not against the country.

The remarks came a day after a news channel, which conducted a sting operation, claimed the Goa-based right-wing outfit enjoyed political patronage due to which it escaped a ban after its alleged role in the 2009 Margao bomb blast.

Two suspected Sanatan Sanstha workers had died when a bomb they were ferrying to Margao in Goa accidentally exploded in November 2009.

Police also suspect involvement of activists linked to the Sanatan Sanstha in the killings of rationalists Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare, M M Kalburgi and Gauri Lankesh.

However, the outfit, which has its headquarters at Ramnathi village in North Goa district, has denied any involvement in these cases.

When asked about the Sanatan Sanstha’s role in criminal activities, Mr Dhavalikar told reporters in Panaji that investigations were on in various cases and “court will decide whether they (activists of the outfit) were really guilty”.

“Sanatan is doing work for Hindu religion and culture. I don’t think that they are doing any work against the country,” said the leader of the MGP, an ally of the BJP-led state government.

The public works department minister admitted that his family has been associated with the Sanatan Sanstha.

“My family and I are associated with Sanatan to spread Hindu religion. Sanatan doesn’t believe in violence. It is working to spread the Hindu religion and culture and we support all organisations which do similar work,” he said.

Asked whether he financially supported the organisation, Mr Dhavalikar said “I only give advertisements to it (the outfit’s magazine).”

Notably, MGP president Dipak Dhavalikar, who is Sudin Dhavalikar’s brother, had last month claimed the Sanatan Sanstha was not involved in the killings of rationalists and activists and that some people want to project the outfit as a “wrong-doer”.

Kyle Ticlo Son of BJP MLA Glen Ticlo was Over-speeding, Going at Nearly 180 km/hr Claim Eyewitnesses to Belagavi Accident

PANAJI: A BMW car of a Goa BJP MLA Glen Ticlo was torched by villagers along the Goa-Belgaum highway, around 50 km from the inter-state border in Karnataka, late yesterday evening after his son who was driving the car met with an accident injuring a local person and killing another.

While the MLA’s son Kyle Ticlo claimed that it was an accident as he lost control of the high-powered BMW, bystanders told IndiaScoops.com that the driver was doing nearly 180 km/hr or even more on a stretch where slums abound and is a known accident-prone zone, since people are always crossing the road on that patch of the highway.

An IndiaScoops.com freelancer reporter from Belagavi who visited the scene of the accident shortly saw an angry mob being lathi-charged by the police. The police used excessive force on the mob, which was protesting due to the fact that there are no proper caution signs or over-speeding warnings on that patch of the NH4, which is frequented by locals, who cross the highway.

The MLA, Glenn Ticlo, confirmed the accident to news agency IANS, but said his son was not at fault.

However, bystanders told media persons that the car was being driven at a very high speed.

“The driver was going at a speed far above the permissible limit on that section of the highway. He must have been doing nearly 160 to 180 kms per hour when the accident occurred. It is a clear case of over-speeding, and reckless driving which caused the accident, resulting in the death of one girl and severally injuring her sister,” Hashim Khan, an eyewitness told an IndiaScoops.com stringer who visited the site of the accident about an hour after the accident.

According to a PTI report, MLA Glenn Ticlo’s son Kyle Ticlo mowed down a 20-year-old girl on Goa-Belgaum National Highway 4 around 5 pm on Monday.

Kyle was booked for rash and negligent driving, but later granted bail by the court.

“We are right now completing police formalities in Belgaum. Kyle (his son) is fine,” Mr Ticlo was quoted by IANS as saying.

A video clip surfaced showing the car, which is registered in the name of the Goa MLA, being set on fire by a mob.

The clip also shows policemen chasing crowds of stone-throwers.

Supreme Court To Hear Fresh Petition Against Rafale Deal On October 10

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will hear a fresh petition against the Rafale deal between India and France on Wednesday. A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph Monday said it will hear the petition filed by lawyer Vineet Dhanda, who is seeking a direction to the centre to reveal details of the deal and the comparative prices during the UPA and NDA rule in a sealed cover to the top court.

The petition also sought information about the contract given to Reliance by Dassault.

Advocate M L Sharma’s plea, filed earlier, alleging discrepancies in the fighter jet deal with France and seeking a stay on it will also come up for hearing on October 10.

Mr Sharma claimed in his petition that the inter-government agreement to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets must be quashed as it was an “outcome of corruption” and not ratified by parliament under Article 253 (parliament has power to make any law for implementing any inter-government agreement) of the Constitution.

A similar petition was filed in the top court in March this year seeking an independent probe into the Rafale deal and disclosure of the cost involved in the deal before Parliament.

The petition, filed by Congress leader Tehseen S Poonawalla, had sought a direction against the centre on why the Union Cabinet’s approval was not sought as part of the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) before signing the procurement deal with France on September 23, 2016.

Rafale deal is a defence agreement signed between the governments of India and France for the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter aircrafts in a fly-away condition as a part of the upgrading process of Indian Air Force equipment.

The Rafale fighter is a twin-engine Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) manufactured by French aerospace company Dassault Aviation.

Indian Air Force had advanced a proposal to buy 126 fighter aircraft in August 2007 and floated a tender. Following this, an invitation was sent to various aviation companies to participate in the bidding process.

Sakshi Maharaj Dares Rahul Gandhi To Challenge Him In 2019 Lok Sabha Elections

UTTAR PRADESH: BJP Member of Parliament Sakshi Maharaj has dared Congress president Rahul Gandhi to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls against him, saying he will leave politics if he defeats him.

“I challenge Rahul Gandhi to contest the 2019 general elections against me (from Unnao). I will leave politics if he wins, but if he loses, he should leave (India) for Italy,” the BJP lawmaker told reporters on Sunday.

The Unnao lawmaker also attacked Mr Gandhi for undertaking Mansarovar Yatra in early September this year, allegedly without maintaining “purity”.

“We are not opposing his yatra. Why will the BJP do so? But it is written in ‘shastra’ (scriptures) that purity is needed for such yatras (pilgrimage). He should have become pure before doing the yatra. No one enters a temple without (maintaining) purity. Darshan is not justified after having non-veg food,” said Sakshi Maharaj.

“He sometimes wears ‘topi’ (skull cap) and then becomes ‘Shiv Bhakt'”, he said taking a dig at Mr Gandhi.

The BJP lawmaker said he would welcome if Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav builds a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu in Saifai (Etawah).

On whether Ram temple will be a poll issue in the 2019 polls, Sakshi Maharaj said “As of now the issue is ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’ but in ‘yudh’ (war), the issue depends on situation.”

The BJP lawmaker also claimed the opposition’s fear of defeat from the BJP is the reason behind their efforts to forge a pre-poll alliance.

“The opposition is afraid of the BJP and that is why they are talking of grand alliance,” he added.
